Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, said that its renewable energy portfolio has grown by 33 per cent over the past year, reaching 4 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy in operation and under development across 25 countries. Speaking at the Intersolar Middle East 2019 conference last week in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Yousif Al Ali, director of Business Growth, Masdar Clean Energy, highlighted Masdar’s expansion regionally and internationally. To date, Masdar has invested in renewable energy projects with a combined value of $12 billion. Together, these projects displace nearly 5.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. The total electricity production of all Masdar’s solar and wind projects is just over 10,680 GWh annually. “Masdar has been a catalyst for the renewable energy sector in the Arab world and beyond,” Al Ali said during the opening session of the conference.
