Where To Invest In Renewables In Subsaharan Africa

July 19, 2018

The objective of the project was to report a market analysis of the 49 Sub-Saharan African countries (SSA), to assess each country’s proficiency in attracting renewables energy investments, especially for wind power and solar PV. The criteria that reflect the availability of SSA countries to receive investment from private companies were identified, analysed and measured. In the analysis, all the relevant parameters were taken into account such as the electricity demand growth, the political stability, the renewable resources availability and the regulatory framework. After the evaluation of the different countries, the final goal was to present two different ranks, respectively one for wind power and one for solar PV, of the top 10 Sub-Saharan countries that are more likely to attract profitable investments for foreign energy companies.

Reaching Net-Zero Carbon by 2040:Decarbonizing and Neutralizing the Use Phase of Connected Devices

whitePaper | May 20, 2022

As part of our Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, Amazon is working to measure, reduce, and neutralize the emissions across every part of our business. For Amazon Devices, we are integrating carbon reduction strategies across the life cycle of our devices, including materials and manufacturing, transportation, use, and end-of-life phases. This paper focuses on the use phase, which accounts for 10-15% of the overall carbon footprint of rechargeable battery-operated devices and 60-80% of the footprint of plugged-in devices. We believe this phase is an important area of focus, since consumer electronics will always require some amount of electricity to operate. As the world becomes more connected even beyond consumer electronics, we believe that connectivity in itself allows us to rethink how we approach use phase decarbonization for all connected devices.

Green Innovations of Antennas

whitePaper | May 16, 2022

Energy saving has become one of the most discussed topics of green development. Antennas, especially passive antennas, do not directly consume DC or AC electric energy, leaving them easily overlooked when energy saving is discussed. However, as unique devices that convert between radio frequency (RF) energy and electromagnetic waves, antennas transmit the RF energy to mobile devices. The efficiency in which the antennas convert energy has a significant bearing on the power consumed by base stations
